Whether you're planning your spring break, need a break, or feel like being a tourist in your own town, a rejuve-cation on Hilton Head Island is the welcomed wellness opportunity we all deserve. And even though the whole fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants “vaycay” can be fun at times—there’s no denying the true effectiveness of a well planned out time-out, especially one with your health in mind. Here’s an exercise routine that will build more than just muscles, it will build you back up to your most vibrant self:

Exercise Your Right to Veg Out
Research shows that “just doing nothing” actually creates a whole lot of something good in the mind and body. Here’s why: When we relax, we are able to work toward stabilizing stress hormones like cortisol and are therefore able to improve overall biochemical functions.
•  Walking on the beach or other natural habitat like Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge.
•  Reading a book or building a sandcastle on one of Hilton Head’s pristine beaches.
•  Enjoying a treatment at one of Hilton Head’s premier spas.

Exercise Your Mind
One of the best ways to improve your mental state is to expand upon what you already know about your interests and/or learn new things.
•  Taking a wine-making class at The Vintner’s Club.
•  Enrolling in a weekend yoga workshop at Jiva Yoga Center.
•  Getting some healthy cooking tips from the pros at Hilton Head Health and taking one of their informative cooking classes.

Exercise Your Body
From detoxifying, to increasing your fitness level, to just plain feeling good overall, there’s no doubt that physical exertion (both moderate and strenuous) is beneficial.
•  Hiring a private surf or SUP instructor like Glen Barroncini.
•  Creating your own WOD (work out of the day) at Jarvis Creek's fitness trail.
•  Signing up for one of the area’s races.

Exercise Eating Good Food
I live by the 80-20 rule—meaning 80% of the time I eat clean and 20% of the time I treat myself. A treat can be anything from a glass of wine overlooking the water in Harbour Town, to indulging in eating Daufuskie’s signature crab cakes, to satisfying my sweet tooth.
•  Tasting one of the Marche de Macarons’ gluten-free, gourmet macarons. (My favorite is the lavender, blueberry).
•  Sampling locally made beer from Hilton Head Brewing Company’s tap room.
•  Going out to Bear Island Farm and trying fresh from the earth, organic produce.
